It’s not much of a leap to say that M. Night Shyamalan is at his best when he’s telling small, contained stories. Give him a family, a farmhouse and some lights in the sky and he can do some amazing things. Give him a huge budget and an anime to adapt, and, well, it doesn’t turn out quite so well.
