Breaking Dawn Part Two Review | Freepress

The second movie of the two part Twilight Saga finale is here! Yay… Our enthusiasm for the acting and production of this movie is yet again unparalleled. Just like Breaking Dawn Part One, they had a higher budget than the first three. We know this, but no one really took advantage of that— to maybe recast, replace the entire production staff, change the story, and possibly come out with a decent movie. Sigh. The extra money was spent on the creepish Gerber baby-esque depiction of Renesmee. (If you don’t recall, that is the half-vampire, demon child of Bella [Kristen Stewart] and Edward [Robert Pattinson]). And the not-actually-as-exciting-as- it-looks vampire battle at the end.

Along with the “classic” vampire love story we all know and don’t even pretend to enjoy, the movie continued to focus on the ever-pedophilic werewolf, Jacob, and his relationship with those vampires. Speaking of pedophiles, may we remind you that Edward is almost 100 years older than Bella. If anyone ever finds out if Stephenie Meyer has daddy issues, or was raped as a child, well, we would not be surprised.

Also, Bella is now a vampire. Right. We forgot. Because after four movies worth of almost suspenseful build-up of how incredibly different she would be, her transformation wasn’t a huge deal. Except she and Edward had lots of sex that could make even the most dedicated of Twihards uncomfortable. You would think that her vampire powers would give her the power of good acting, but that gene must have skipped a generation. Though, we do give credit where credit is due; the way she jumped across ponds and climbed up mountains with super-strength was truly remarkable. It really made the entire movie realistic. Really.

Is it us or was this final installment met with considerably less hype? Maybe it was the K-Stew cheating scandal, or the preteen girls and their middle aged mothers simply lost interest. Could it be that the audience has grown tired of staring at a shirtless Taylor Lautner? No, that will never happen. But we think after four previous movies, everyone just forgot to care.
